Monday March 4th we had our Premiere Party hosted by Tyler’s Tap Room in Durham for the documentary – Duke Carolina, The Blue Blood Rivalry! This is exciting for our company as co producers of our first full length feature and national distribution. The show will appear on Movies on Demand on Time Warner and other outlets from March 7th until mid May 2013.

The Countdown Begins

Pivot Point Media was hired by Greatest Fan Films and REM Entertainment to provide the local filming and production of an exciting inside look on the greatest rivalry in collegiate sports – Duke Carolina Basketball.

After six long weeks of post production the film is complete and negotiations are underway with ESPN and CBS Sports. Our goal is to have our documentary on the air for this 2013 college season. So the countdown begins….

Excellence at Durham Regional Hospital

We recently had the pleasure of working with Durham Regional’s Marketing Department to produce five videos reflecting the hospital’s core values – Integrity, Teamwork, Diversity, Safety and Excellence. They were shown at the All Durham Regional Annual Event which was especially celebratory this year as it was named by US News and World Report as one of the top hospitals in the state.

The enthusiasm and commitment from their personnel is so evident we decided to keep the production stark and simple to allow their compelling statements to shine through.

Media Day with Coach K

Another major interview was placed in the ‘can’ Thursday as we finally got to sit down with Coach K. This was a significant part of rounding out the Blue Blood Rivalry documentary as Coach K reflected on his approach to the game, Duke’s players, the Rivalry and his own personal good fortune.

The latter subject – he mentioned being lucky several times – one can take with a grain of salt. Clearly Coach K would have been successful in just about any arena that required leadership, intense competitiveness and high principles. The good fortune is it came through the sport he so truly loves.

Onto the Olympics and for us onto the editing suites… stay tuned..

Roy Williams

Our work on the Blue Blood Rivalry documentary continues, chronicling the inside out story of how the best competition in collegiate sports impacts the fans and our communities.

UNC Basketball Coach Roy Williams was also generous with his time and graciously withstood our barrage of questions.

When asked about what was more important to the fans- beating Duke or the Tournaments – Roy related the following story. After beating Duke at Cameron his first season back as head coach, he and his wife received a standing ovation at a local Chapel Hill restaurant. A week or so later he led the team to their first ACC Tournament win in several years. Out of curiosity, the Williams went back to the same restaurant. He barely received a nod…

Lewis Black Adds His Spin

Blue Blood Rivalry documentary today at the Carolina Inn. He was extremely generous with his time providing hours of material especially coming from a North Eastern kid’s perspective that instantly embraced Chapel Hill as his home.

Lewis vividly recounted the evolution of positive social changes over the years but most importantly had us hysterical about the Blue Blood Rivalry. I love my work!

Mindfulness

I had the great pleasure of filming a lecture by Dr. Jeff Brantley on Mindfulness at Duke’s Integrative Medicine Center in Durham. We had an animated conversation before and afterwards relating the confluence of Mindfulness and Aikido. Specifically I was relating to time spent studying with the late masterful George Leonard, one of the presidents of the Esalen Institute. Here are some of Dr. Brantley’s observations on the subject:

A quality of mind that notices, in the present moment, without judging, or trying to fix or change anything.
An awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose in the present moment non-judgmentally and with acceptance, where “acceptance” means a willingness to see things as they are.
Is enhanced by developing skills of intention, attention, and an accepting, allowing attitude towards present moment experience; usually by “meditation” or “reflective practice.”

But equally fascinating was Dr. Brantley’s emphasis on “Self Compassion – not being overly self critical”. Obviously this leads to anxiety, worry, stress and tension which prevents us from performing fluidly whether it be professional work, play or personal interactions.

Fans Still Support Duke

Our work on the Blue Blood Rivalry Documentary continues but it was fascinating to see the fan mania hit the family. My grand daughter, Zawditu introduced herself to Austin Rivers at the mall and graciously he accepted her invitation for a picture.
